guilt doing nothing

Feeling guilty for not acting against injustice or wrongdoing:

Guilt pricks at my conscience, a sharp reminder of my inaction against those wrongdoings. Even amid the scorching summer, the guilt felt like icicles lodged in my guts. Why do I feel this way – where all I did was stand there and watch? Could it be that the quote by Edmund Burke holds true: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
